Job Title: Axe Throw Coach & Facility Host

 

Job Summary: Northern Axe Co. and the Yukon Sourdough Rendezvous Society are excited to open the Yukon’s first permanent year-round axe throw facility this fall and we are looking for a few passionate individuals to join us! We are looking for confident, energetic and reliable individuals who can instruct various-sized groups of patrons and teach them how to throw an axe safely and effectively. This position also includes light bar service, check-in responsibilities as well as basic facility and equipment maintenance. No previous axe throwing experience is necessary as World Axe Throwing League (WATL) Coach training will be provided!

 

Both full time and part time positions are currently available. 

 

Reporting To: Yukon Rendezvous Management 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Running events for various-sized groups at both the facility and off-site with the mobile trailer unit, including providing safety demonstrations and axe throw coaching for patrons.

  • Ensuring patrons have a fun, safe experience while maintaining a constant awareness of correct health and safety practices.

  • Supervising gameplay, including being available to answer questions, coach and instruct, uphold safety rules and regulations, act as a judge when needed, interact with the groups and generally ensure everyone is having an amazing time.

  • Supervising the throwing lanes, keeping patrons safe and encouraging a fun atmosphere.

  • Maintaining axes and other equipment, including conducting inventories and placing orders as needed.

  • Preparing venue and lanes for regular operations as well as reservations including: wetting the boards, replacing targets, checking axes, maintaining clean lanes, etc.

  • Safely using basic power tools to maintain and replace targets – e.g., using tools such as cordless drills, chop saws, wood planers, etc.

  • Setting up and maintaining appropriate stock levels for the bar, including conducting inventories and placing orders as needed. 

  • Taking food and drink orders as well as serving guests.

  • Maintaining a clean facility, including sanitizing guest areas and touch points, etc.

  • Ensuring that all company procedures as well as health and safety policies are followed.

  • Completing WATL training as well as other worksite training as required.

 

Requirements

  • Must be 19 years of age or older and eligible to work in Canada.

  • Previous experience of axe throwing is not a requirement. However, you must have a keen interest to both learn and master all the responsibilities for coaching and running the facility, including the use of World Axe Throwing League software, as well as the overseeing of league play and tournaments. Training will be provided.

  • Available to work the mobile trailer at off-site events as scheduled.

  • Available to work flexible hours throughout the week. This may include daytime, evening and weekend shifts as scheduled. 

  • Must be confident and have an outgoing personality as well as a passion to build community.

  • Health and safety conscious behaviour.

  • Reliable, self-motivated and responsible.

  • Must have a reliable means of transportation.

  • Must have or attain your BARS-L certificate.

  • Must have or attain within 3 months of hiring your Standard First Aid Level C.

Pay Rate: $20.00 /hr
