2021 Festival survey feedback.

Following the 2021 festival, the society released a public survey. To allow for a maximum number of respondents, the survey was open from April 19 to June 14. We want to thank those that took the time to fill out our survey. After the release of some marketing of the 2021 festival, it was clear and great to see that Yukoners are passionate about Rendezvous! We asked you to put the passion you have into action, and filling out the survey is definitely a step in the right direction.

We received a lot of feedback; both positive and negative, regarding the festival rebrand. We want to emphasize that the festival is now, and has always been a product of the people who put in the time to make it happen. The board of directors, committee members, and office staff work together not only to put on our annual festival, but to find new ways to continue our festival. Our volunteers, both past and present, have delivered many great festivals, helping to create memories that the community continues to cherish. In recent years, our board of directors has kept no secrets about the fact that our aim is to cater to a more inclusive and diverse population base and as such, the board of directors felt that a rebrand was the way forward to help attract a larger demographic to our festival, and to also provide support financially and operationally.

We know that Main Street holds a dear place in many people’s hearts as the responses further reveal, and we hear you. However we wish it were that simple! During the time that Rendezvous was held on Main Street, the timelines were MUCH tighter, the entire festival had to be set up in one day, and taken down on Sunday evening so the streets could open back up. The City of Whitehorse’ operational plan also involves Rendezvous taking place in Shipyards Park. Further, the landscape of Main Street, and of the town itself has changed since those days. Currently a return to Main Street is not feasible for the size of our festival, for the amount of volunteers we have and for the City of Whitehorse who are one of our biggest festival supporters.

A reminder to all that in order to see the changes you want, we encourage you to volunteer! If you don't have time to volunteer, please attend the AGM on August 10th to voice your ideas. This year we have room for both in person and virtual attendees. We are also always looking for people to join our seven committees to help steer board decisions. Committees tend to meet less frequently than the board so it's great for busy people who want to get involved.

The survey link was posted and boosted on our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts a total of 14 times, as well as placed on our website homepage from April 19 to June 14, 2021. We would like to thank all those that took the time to participate in this year's post festival survey, however we are sad to report that we received only 104 responses. From feedback received earlier in the year, we had hoped to hear from a larger number of community members.  We will continue to encourage the public to respectfully voice their suggestions and to use platforms, such as our surveys and the AGM to do so.

We are grateful for all the support we receive and we look forward to seeing you at the 2022 festival; Yukon Rendezvous, The Great Outdoors.
