Press Release: Rendezvous is back!

As we begin the New Year, the team at Rendezvous is ramping up plans for the Yukon’s premiere winter festival, with lots of all-time favorites like the Performance Stage, Snowpad, KIDSFEST, and more returning between February 11th and 27th, 2022 as we come together to celebrate The Great Outdoors!

Tickets for key events are on sale now! We are excited to bring back returning favourites like the Fiddle Show and For The Love of Drag as well as new events like Abondance: A Burlesque Extravaganza! Of course, COVID-19 is still a factor in planning the upcoming Festival, and as we cannot predict exactly how it will impact festival delivery in February as far as venue capacity.  Therefore, Rendezvous will be enacting a policy for this Festival that will give the earliest in-person ticket purchasers seating priority in the cases of reduced capacity.  For now though, tickets are for sale based on 50% occupancy at all the venues. Tickets are now available for Whitehorse Toyota Fiddle Show, Yukon Brewing Abondance: A Burlesque Extravaganza, and For the Love of Drag, as well as the Rendezvous Raffle with over $20,900 in prizes! (License #2021 - 029).  This year, Tuck Entertainment is returning and delivering an extravagant drag show, with a very special guest Kendall Gender.  Head to https://www.yukonrendezvous.com/ to grab all your tickets for this year's festival.

For 2022, The Midnight Sun Fireworks Producers will be taking a break from the fireworks, in a statement they said: “The Midnight Sun Fireworks Producers are sad to announce that we have made the difficult decision to take a year off from the Rendezvous Pyromusical. Each year the design and production of the show takes hundreds of hours, which we are proud to say are fully volunteer. Producing the fireworks has become a family undertaking for us and as much as we all love the show, the time has come for a break. We plan to be back with renewed enthusiasm for the 2023 show. We'd like to thank Yukoners for all the support over the years as well as our crew, who’s countless hours of volunteer work have made it possible for us to create award quality shows in the Yukon. We look forward to providing you with the best pyromusical in the Yukon yet in 2023.”

As Rendezvous welcomes another season, it also welcomes a new Executive Director to the Rendezvous Society! Devin Knopf will be taking the reins with direction from our volunteer Board of Directors for the 58th Yukon Rendezvous Festival. Devin brings over a decade of experience in tourism, hospitality and events from Sun Peaks Resort and Revelstoke Mountain Resort in BC. He began his career at Sun Peaks in Real Estate in 2007 before moving onto events and eventually Guest Services at Revelstoke Mountain Resort.  Sun Peaks events consisted of Ski, Snowboard and Mountain Bike events like the Dew Tour and National Championships, Concerts including, Matt Good, Kevin Costner, Burton Cummings, The Sheepdogs and more. As Executive Director, Devin will provide leadership and support to the office and volunteer team as Rendezvous and its Board embark on this year’s annual celebration and on to 2023, along with planning for the 60th anniversary edition in 2024.

“I am excited to be joining the Rendezvous team and help execute this truly iconic Yukon event,” said Devin Knopf. “It is an absolute honor to be taking the position of Executive Director and I do not take this opportunity lightly.  This event is engrained in the culture of Whitehorse and the Yukon and I thank you all for giving me the opportunity.  I am really looking forward to getting right into Yukon Rendezvous, now that my wife and I have made our move to your beautiful part of the world.  The Yukon can rest assured that this is not my event to take and run with. Rendezvous is run by its Board of Directors and its volunteers and I am just here to help execute a great event for everyone who comes out. Rendezvous has a rich history and an exciting future, it’s a celebration of another winter gone past and of the community as a whole.  I look forward to meeting each and every one of you in the community so feel free to come by the office and say hello or get involved as a festival volunteer or Board Member!”

The 58th Yukon Rendezvous Festival will be taking place between February 11th and 27th, 2022. We can hardly wait to celebrate The Great Outdoors with you!
