Rendezvous 2021: We Will Rendezvous with fireworks, snow sculptures and virtual events! What to expect from this year's festival.

With Rendezvous kickoff less than 40 days away, we are proud to announce that “We Will Rendezvous” in 2021 and wanted to take this opportunity to provide the community with an update to our October release on what the festival will look like this year.

Like many of you out there, we were both relieved and buoyed by the announcement of a COVID-19 vaccination strategy that is to be implemented in the Yukon over the following months but, regardless, the safety of the entire Yukon Community continues to remain at the forefront of our festival decisions for 2021.

To say this year has been unexpectedly difficult for everyone is a bit of an understatement but, looking back, we are grateful Rendezvous 2020 was able to run as scheduled before everyone’s world was upended. As you know, Rendezvous originated as a cure for the cabin fever blues over 60 years ago and whilst the festival and our organisation is continually evolving, its role in the community as a vital source of social connection to support us through our long, dark Yukon winters remains and we want to highlight the importance and significance of the festival to our local community. This is the reason we have tried our utmost to ensure we are able to carry on and host Rendezvous 2021 in a manner that is responsible and safe for our community following the guidelines of the CMOH and his team.

Onto the festival itself, as you can imagine, this upcoming Rendezvous will be different to past seasons. Virtual events will replace many of our in-person events, and strict guidelines will be in place at all of our live attended events. While this may be different to what you are accustomed to, please do not let this dissuade you from reaching out and connecting to your family and friends. Arrange a phone meeting, perhaps even a group video call with your nearest and dearest in other parts of Canada and the world. Discuss the events you are excited to see and may even be taking a part of. Are you entering your furry friend in the digital Pet Parade or maybe showing off your creativity in the Fashion Challenge? While the schedule of events may seem smaller this year, we still have many activities planned to keep you entertained and busy in February, including the return of some old favourites.

Thanks to the support of the Yukon Government Arts Fund, the Hougen Group of Companies and Save on Foods, we are excited to announce the return of Snow Sculptures back to Shipyards Park. Blocks will be carved by 6 different local teams and be displayed during the festival weekend. Full details will be available in our program and schedule of events.

In addition, the Midnight Sun Fireworks will return to the Rendezvous line up. The Pyro Musical on Rendezvous Saturday will once again be lighting up our skies thanks to the support of the Yukon Government Arts Fund.  The wonderful team lead by Warren Zakus and Kiara Adams will be producing another jaw dropping show visible from many locations in Whitehorse but in a Rendezvous first, it will also be live streamed!

As the festival draws closer, we will continue to provide important information on how you can participate and be involved in this year's festival in a safe, responsible and COVID-19 friendly manner. As usual, our goal remains to provide an authentic Yukon experience to Yukoners and we hope you will join us for the 57th edition of Yukon Rendezvous!
