Superstar event a new addition to the Yukon Sourdough Rendezvous Festival

The Yukon Sourdough Rendezvous Society (YSR) and Yukon Energy are pleased to announce a new addition to the festival called “Superstar”. Superstar will be an opportunity for Yukoners to showcase their emerging talents in a competition being held at the Yukon Arts Centre on February 23, 2012 for a winning prize of $1500.

This new event is being sponsored by Yukon Energy.

“We are very excited about partnering with Yukon Energy on this new event,” YSR president Marj Eschak said. “Without sponsorships such as this, facilitating new events that appeal to Yukoners would not be possible and we are grateful for their support.”

“There’s a lot of wonderful talent in the territory, and this event is sure to draw out some of those people, especially teens,” Yukon Energy spokesperson Janet Patterson said. “We’re happy to support what we see as a worthwhile addition to the festival and a great evening of fun and entertainment.”

Interested participants will submit an audition video to YSR by February 1, 2012 and judges will choose up to a maximum of fifteen acts to perform at the event on February 23.  The competition is open to all Yukon residents over the age of fifteen.

In addition to other participation prizes, the winning act will also receive performance time at “Rendezvous at Night” on February 25 and coverage via special announcements on the festival website, Facebook sites and Twitter.

This year, the festival celebrates the 70th anniversary of the Alaska Highway.
